Common Seaweeds of the Gulf of California

The primary aim of this bilingual English/Spanish field guide is to help users identify the seaweeds they find and to help them use that identification as a means to learn more about the seaweeds and the marine environment. For those unfamiliar with the Gulf of California, or marine algae in general, sections are included covering the history of phycological research in the Gulf, the basics of marine algal biology and the physical environment in which the organisms live. Included are 78 of the most common species of marine algae in the Gulf of California. Photographs of these species are provided with the text, which lists key characteristics, seasonal growth patterns, comments on ecology and geographical range. There is also a glossary and a section of references for further information.
