Are Americans Starving? Does anyone care? Looking for an answer a doctor hangs up his shingle and goes on the bum. In search of the hungry American the old doctor ate in soup kitchens, visited food pantries, slept in shelter homes and applied for food stamps in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, New York City and his home town.

A man in a soup kitchen line plucked a hypodermic needle from the alley and put it in his pocket. Because he had no change, a woman threatened to "knock the s--- out of him. A night in San Francisco was spent under a blanket watching his neighbor "shoot-up" his clients. A street woman took his hand and would own him. His food stamp diet lacked calcium and vitamin D and made him fat.
