The Rich Man and Lazarus on the Reformation Stage: A Contribution to the Social History of German Drama

Jesus' parable "The Rich Man and Lazarus" (Luke 16:19-31) was a popular subject for dramas in Germany during the sixteenth century. Wailes studies ten plays written in German and dated from around 1520 to 1598. Each play is regarded as a participant in the Reformation's discourse about salvation and damnation.
