Letocetum: The Rise and Decline of a Roman Posting Station

Letocetum, near Lichfield, provided a rest-point for official travellers along Watling Street. Remains of a bath-house and accommodation have been found, typical of the posting stations that stood on Roman arteries all over the Empire. As well as describing archaeological work at the site over the years, Jim Gould discusses how the imperial transport bureaucracy worked, drawing on evidence from elsewhere in Britain and the Roman Empire.
