Architecture + Design LA

The third edition of Michael Webb’s Architecture + Design LA has doubled in size, from 48 to 96 pages, and now includes about 800 of the best buildings, interiors, design resources, and arts facilities in Southern California, from the heart of downtown Los Angeles to the San Fernando Valley and Orange County, plus new sections on Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and San Diego. Another valuable new feature is the Art and Design Resource List of outlets recommended by experts for vintage and contemporary furnishings, fine and decorative art, books and fashion, well-designed housewares and a dozen other categories. A general index has been added to the alphabetical listing of architects and designers.

Within each of the ten sections on greater LA and the three on outlying areas, entries are listed sequentially and are color coded, according to their accessibility. Each entry is cued by number to detailed area maps and some are illustrated by line drawings. Pithy comments identify a selection of classic, contextual and cutting-edge architecture. Must-sees, from the Bradbury Building to the Getty Center, and three decades of work by Frank Gehry are listed, alongside adventurous hotels and restaurants, stores and warehouse conversions that showcase the talents of younger designers.
