A lively young Norwegian nurse discovered the Quakers in Vichy France. She volunteered to help feed hungry French children and wound up spending six years rescuing people from the Nazis. She wrote this memoir in 1945 for her deaf mother. Some of the children whose lives she saved have now honored her with its publication.
