Description
This book uses Maslow's Human Motivation Theory, Jungian learning style, Communication theory, and Cogan's Clinical Supervision strategies to build a set of procedures for effective supervision of employees and professionals. It then teaches and gives practitioners chances to apply these skills in real organizations and systems.

Words or Phrases: Supervision, Interpersonal Communications, Planning Skills.
This book conceptualizes supervision of others as a series of interpersonal interactions between the supervisor and one or more supervisees. The individuals in a supervisory relationship must work within the rules of a system of procedures, rewards, and expectations in an organization. This book uses the Human Motivation Theory of Abraham Maslow, Carl Jung's Personality Types, Communication processes of Carl Rogers and Kurt Lewin, and Morris Cogan's Clinical Supervision strategies to suggest effective systems of supervision related to the organization mission and goals. The examples used are all Kindergarten-12th grade educational settings. Each skill set used in planning, implementing and maintaining such a supervisory system is identified and taught and activities are presented to help readers learn to use them. Variations to use these skills in special as well as regular education settings are also presented. Specific observation-recording devices, conferencing skills, instructional issues, individual and group skills, time use, and special techniques for observing small group and individual learning are also presented in detail. All of the skills and processes have been taught and used with individual supervisors, small groups, and in large systems. The techniques have been adapted in private and non-profit organizations in and outside of education.
