This easy-to-use study guide and coloring book is for the student midwife who wants to gain a basic understanding of the art and science of midwifery. It is ideal for both the individual student as well for midwifery study groups. Each of the 11 chapters contains learning objectives, resources for further study, practice exercises, and questions for review. Illustrations, color-in diagrams, and sample forms help support students as they process the information they are learning. The workbook begins with a chapter about the history of midwifery and current trends/status of midwives. This is followed by an orientation to study chapter, which helps the self-learner approach their study endeavor, as well as introducing medical terminology, abbreviations and anatomical directions. Other chapters deal with reproductive anatomy, embryology and fetal development, normal pregnancy and nutrition/herbs, the course of prenatal care, normal labor and birth, the placenta and postpartum period, the normal newborn and breastfeeding.
