Description

Get Out of the Way! How to Identify and Avoid a Driver Under the Influence is the only book describing on-road behaviors that suggest a high probability of DUI before becoming tragically obvious.

Author Doug Thorburn argues that in this day and age, the probabilities of alcoholism, even if only in the early stages, are high for anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car while under the influence. Alcoholic behaviors are divided between early- and middle-to-latter stage alcoholism. The differences are explained clearly and succinctly in a way that will allow any driver to become a "drunk driver detective." While this book is for drivers with all levels of experience, it may be especially helpful for young people.

Get Out of the Way! combines facts with applications and, at the same time, gives reasons. For example, most would never imagine that there is a 35% likelihood of DUI for someone making an illegal U-turn. However, when we consider the idea that while all of us engage in occasional misbehaviors but alcoholics do so far more frequently, this amazingly high probability makes sense. Many people also have no idea that law enforcers are no more able than are others to spot a person under the influence if his blood alcohol level is at an over-limit .10 to .20 per cent. This is explained by a difference in the alcoholic vs. non-alcoholic brain chemistry, causing very different behaviors.

Solutions are suggested that can help alleviate the DUI problem, including motivating law enforcers to apprehend DUIs and requiring that every traffic violator be tested for alcohol using a non-intrusive method that takes 30 seconds.
