This book is intended to foster understanding, respect and concern for the 'human soul.' The perspective is chiefly philosophical and psychological, not religious. It is argued that the 'human soul' is an essential concept for both higher human meaning and purpose, and that its devaluation in post-modern culture is a trend with momentous consequences for the future of 'humanity' and for the very essence of what it means to be 'human'. That trend is driven by the materialistic forces of science, technology and capitalism. To reverse the trend towards a rationalized dehumanization -- and a death of the 'human soul' -- will require that humans collectively find the wisdom and moral courage to honor and protect the HUMAN SOUL as a sacred manifestation of cosmic BEING.
