Maverick Judge

During my entire career as a lawyer, legislator, and judge, I was well aware of our Founding Fathers' firm belief in the separation of church and state. It seems to me that they vehemently opposed the King's control over the church more than they opposed the existence of God. It may come as a shock when I say I believe that many judges and other public officials use the excuse of this separation to turn their back on an increasingly immoral society. For further reference to God and the state, one need look no further than the Declaration of Independence, which makes numerous references to a Supreme and Almighty Power. Although I will discuss many topics in the book, I will focus on areas in which I have been involved for much of my life -- the legal system, including the Supreme Court and federal legislation. Many decisions made by these bodies have aided and abetted sustaining a way of life that would have shocked and disgusted our founding fathers. With the help of entertainers, professional athletes, and rock stars, our country is raising more illiterate than literate citizens, and there is a staggering increase in immorality. It is strange how we are repeating some of the same overindulgences as the Romans, with our taxpayers funding arenas and coliseums where athletes battle in front of the elite. History has repeatedly proven that a society can only survive a limited amount of deviance from accepted morality, so it would be in our nation's best interest to begin to return to our former standards of decency.
