Salt Marsh Slider tells the story of two Fish and Wildlife Service biologists who struggle to protect an endangered species of turtle. Their prospects dim when a strange object turns up in the marsh of a new wildlife refuge on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Tracing several leads and with the help of a troubled teenager, they unravel a web involving toxic waste dumping, a corrupt congressman, a wife-beater, and a menagerie of local characters. The author relies on his long career in the real Fish and Wildlife Service to add realism to the events depicted.
