The book, packaged on CD, begins by building awareness of edges of design spaces. Next, the author draws distinctions among literal content, what images are about; latent content, the emotional qualities of images; and manifest content or the lines, shapes and colors that create emotion in two dimensions. From there, objects, colors, type and basic page layout each get a playful but succinct discussion that will help any editor communicate better with designers. The author is a former magazine managing editor who knows first-hand the complexities of working with visual talent.
