The Words

Begun in the late 1980s, The Words was a response to the many people Lee Cantelon had met who were put off by the organized church and religion but remained curious concerning the core message of Christianity and more precisely, what Jesus had said. In The Words, he compiled Jesus’ words thematically, in clear and modern English, for non-Christians, spiritual seekers, agnostics and believers.

Since its first publishing in the 1990s, The Words has been translated into more than twenty languages, including Arabic and Chinese, and has inspired two music projects, “The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard,” with Rickie Lee Jones (New West Records), and “Wordz from the Street,” featuring some of the most prominent contemporary rap artists, reciting and improvising from the pages of this book.
