Soundies

Soundies were the 1940's version of today's music videos. They were the byproduct of a bold attempt to create a new form of entertainment by merging the popularity of juke boxes with the vast appeal of motion pictures. What began in 1941 with great enthusiasm and tremendous possibilities ended in 1946 as a failed experiment. This book is basically a reference work with background information on how the soundie enterprise came into existence and why they met their end. This book includes a list of all 1,859 soundies and a list of the more than 1,000 singers, dancers and musicians who performed in them.
