Jesus Speaks to the Church: The Seven Churches of Revelation

An in-depth study of chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation.  A look at the historicity of the seven churches of Revelation and the application for today.  Each church received a different communication from the Lord Jesus Christ.  Where is the church today?  Would Jesus compliment or condemn it?

Each church is analyzed by name by Jesus Christ and addressed according to their works as a congregation of believers.  These were the oldest churches in the New Testament, the seven churches of Asia Minor, but many had problems similar to the churches in the modern era.  Only one of the churches received no condemnation whatsoever.  In each of His addresses, the Lord Jesus Christ begins with a compliment, and Jesus identifies Himself by His attributes and characteristics in view of what he is about to say to the church. 

The seven churches are emblematic, representative and symbolic of all churches universally, without regard to denominational differences.  The message to the seven churches is an individual message of exhortation, instruction and warning which apply to all churches today.  The instructions and warnings are to remind us that God wants His church to be pure and committed.  The Lord Jesus Christ is to be the central figure in all of the churches.
