From Honky-Tonk beginnings in a dive bar in Fairfield, west of Birmingham, Alabama, the steel town landscape of the Deep South is described through a boy’s eyes. Out of this chaos is born his determination to pull himself up and out. Music is where he found order, though even that path met obstacles. The story follows an orchestra conductor’s inauspicious early life, and is told with humor, insight and unflinching honesty.
