A Roman Wilderness of Pain

A personal examination of the Summer of Love, told from the point of view of one who was there, not as an observer or a caretaker, but a participant and ultimately a victim. It is not a work of fiction; it is how it was on the mean streets of the Haight-Ashbury in 1967. It is meant to stand in stark contrast to those who have told the story as a tale of change, love, transcendence and freedom. Certainly all of those things existed, but they were drowned in the cesspool of disease, pain and tragedy that are the untold results of the Summer of Love.
