📖 Description
A Fly in the Butter is a collection of true stories-gripping, hilarious and touching-about real happenings in the author's growing up in the 1930s and 40s. In "Dust and the Cyclone Cellar" a little boy lives through a dust storm and a tornado in Dust Bowl Nebraska. In "McGinn's Rope andMcGinn's Navy", he and his Depression Era buddies drop mud-ball bombs on a train and bombard enemy kids from a raft battleship with green apples. Later, that kid gets terribly drunk in "Beer and Mud" and pays a big price. In "On Making a Mark" he takes a terrible beating to gain a moment of glory at Princeton and is relieved of his virginity in "Going to Bed With a Girl." Later on, after he is married, that same girl reappears in "A Bee in a Bottle." In "Cottontail" he returns to Nebraska and a touching encounter with a rabbit and the people so dear to him in "Dusk and The Cyclone Cellar."
