ART, CREATIVITY and the IMAGINATION (Volume 1)

With an eclectic postmodern view, the author explores works of art throughout the ages to explore the relationship between art, creativity and the imagination. A work of art can make the ineffable visible . Wittgenstein said what cannot be spoken of must be left in silence. However, aesthetic form can go far beyond mere words and text to express inner thoughts and feelings. Art often reveals a collective truth that transcends personal and cultural differences. The author, herself a painter believes that a work of art can transcend the sorrow of the human condition. Aesthetic form articulates certain complex ideas that are difficult to express in words alone. But this requires activating the imagination so two distinctly different types of knowing can be reconciled. Kant was the first Western philosopher who understood the complexity of the human mind. He knew that human rationality requires the synthetic power of the imagination to bring unity between sensible intuition and the intellect.
