Some have to search for their roots, but others cannot escape the legacy of their past as it strives to resurface. In this story of romance and science fiction, Kate Newton, a seasoned psychiatric nurse, goes to work in a remote, northern community. She was not planning to stay long – but she did not count on meeting Sam Von de Vorg, the concerned parent of Daniel, one of her young patients. Kate struggles to find her place in the community, until Sam makes a seemingly outrageous offer. Despite this – or perhaps because of it – Kate gets to know Sam, and learns about his extraordinary Viking heritage. At the same time, she begins to realize that her own roots are equally mysterious. Kate and Sam’s unique relationship develops in a society mired in mystical events that cannot be explained by science.
