The Corps 2081

As far back as 2016, scientists reported that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was higher than it had been in twenty million years. The Earth’s climate was poised to change in vast and incalculable ways and human society would change with it. Plutocrats had long understood the implications of what was coming and mobilized to protect themselves. They had sowed doubt about global warming for decades, thus gaining time to complete their agenda. They dismantled the United States government, replaced it with corporate rule, and created Havens for the very rich and a military organization to protect them. The Corps. But the Owners’ reign was implicitly challenged by self-governing communities that evolved in places where the weather was relatively stable. The differences between the hierarchal society of the Havens and the rough-hewn democracy of the communities went deep, into the very nature of human existence. In 2081 and 2082, the human race came to a crossroads. And at that crossroads there was a battle between two men who were iconic representatives of their respective worlds....
