One Mission to Africa, Leadership Lessons for a Lifetime: Strategies for effective teamwork in multicultural, multinational, multi-agency, and multijurisdictional undertakings

In September 2009, the United States alongside the East African Countries of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, launched a coalition operation in Kitgum, Uganda. Their mission was to prepare the region for the challenges of a pandemic or equally devastating regional disaster. As the operation unfolded, unmistakable leadership lessons emerged amidst the backdrop of humanitarian and security operations. This is the story of Task Force Kitgum: the lessons gleaned from a dynamic multinational environment, the results, and the influence the mission had on its participants and the local people.
