Sir,--In submitting the annual report of my work for the past year it will be convenient for me to give an account of myself in four different capacities--firstly as a College Tutor, secondly as a Law Student, thirdly as a Private Student, and fourthly as an Unversity Examiner. My position as a Duxina Fellow, enjoying the privileges of a student's life, makes it incumbent on me to do what may otherwise have been left undone--to give such a complete account of the way in which I have spent the past year as may justify the trust placed in me. I. Firstly, then, as a College Tutor, I had throughout the year only two divisions with me, the first and the fourth. At the desire of Dr. Sinclair I took for some time during the latter part of the second term the third division in Mathematics. But my special province was with the first and the last alone. 1. With the first I had to read Indian History. In the case of such advanced students it so happens (I say this from my own experience as a student) that the subject on which they are lectured cannot be conveniently taken up by them early in the year, the time then being devoted to other and more difficult tilings--the books. It thus happens that, though the lecturer comes prepared with all his stores, the students are only passive recipients, and even that with difficulty. They think they can go over the ground late in the year, and so come unprepared to the lecture. Hence the method of question and answer fails with them.
