Now they are alarmed at the bereavement experienced by a beloved relative, and the feeling immediately takes possession of them that such a bereavement could not possibly leave them to survive either the idolised husband, or the wife, or the child, or the brother, or the sister, as the case may be. But I ply the thus easily desponding or despairing with the fact, that Our Father, Who Is In Heaven, has never promised to supply us to-day with the grace and support which we shall require on tomorrow. His Blessed Son taught us to pray, Give US THIS DAY OUR DAILY Bread. The English version of Deuteronomy xxxiii. 25--though an inaccurate one--may be adduced as an illustration, "As thy days so shall thy strength be." The translation harmonises with 1 Luke xii. 20, 21. the whole tenor of Scripture on that point." As an instance, I quote the last verse of the fourth chapter of the Epistle to the Hebrews:--" Let us therefore come boldly unto the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find GRACE TO heLP IN TIME OF NEED." A proper appreciation of the suggestive teaching of the short prayer under meditation marvellously corrects overweening anxiety for the future. Perhaps some of the most amazing supplies of daily bread, literally or metaphorically,--that is, GRACE TO Help IN TIME OF NEEd,--have been ministered in cases most unpromising, and even hopeless. Such a theme is indeed a most profitable and comprehensive one for instruction in righteousness, teaching us that no day in our life, be that life ever so long and prosperous, dare we or can we consider ourselves independent of the Giver of all good gifts. this Por-This portion of the Lord's Prayer, ...
