Presents an examination of the conditions of confinement for juvenile offenders, an interview with a leading juvenile court judge, and highlights of research on the obstacles to the recovery of parentally abducted children. The first article in this initial issue of Juvenile Justice, "Conditions of Confinement" by Dale G. Parent, assesses conditions of juvenile confinement and recommends corrective action to improve them. "On the Front Lines: Interview With Judge David B. Mitchell," provides the Judge's candid comments on the challenges facing the juvenile justice system and the Nation. Finally, "Parentally Abducted Children: Roadblocks to Recovery and Reunion" by Linda K. Girdner, principal investigator for OJJDP's Identifying Risk Factors for Parental Abduction project, reviews her findings and recommendations.
