IN these lectures to mature beginners in Chemis try, the fundamental idea has been followed to unroll before the student the knowable nature of bodies as an ever-growing and spreading picture, and not as a finished work handed down by the great masters. When I say mature beginners, I mean that in my estimation chemistry should not be taught at all to boys and girls before their full mental growth has been attained, fully aware of my isolated position in the present evolution Of schools. Only the mature mind follows with growing interest the unfolding of such a picture, and absorbs it as a living thing.
