Tray Tasking: Activities that Promote Reading and Writing Readiness

This resource on tray tasking provides the tools educators need to promote reading and writing readiness through fun, hands-on activities. By using familiar household items in new ways, children strengthen eye and hand coordination for future reading and writing success. Using this learning system, children will simply manipulate items organized on a tray in such a way that they are moving their eyes, arms and hands from left to right and top to bottom, the same directions used for reading and writing. Teachers will learn how to create a tray tasking learning center in their classrooms, a great setting for authentic assessment. They can create at least ten tray tasks to be available and accessible at all times. This resource educates teachers and parents about engaging children in activities that promote whole body preparation for reading and writing skills-all while having fun!
