Cooking Activities A to Z

This activity book presents a detailed lesson plan format of hands-on cooking activities for young children ages two and up. The child-centered activities are easy to understand and follow and allow children and their teachers to explore such concepts as measurement, nutrition, and change in physical properties. The text has something to offer each individual child, and expansions are given to offer alternate ingredients for the growing preschool vegetarian population. Each section of the text will enable teachers and families to find cooking activities for a theme-based curriculum, to incorporate a letter of the week, or to provide a spur of the moment classroom exercise. Many different activity choices are given for each targeted alphabet letter. The activities within the text can be done by individual children or in large groups, as many of the activities are tailored to an assembly line approach to adding ingredients. This allows for many children to participate at once, while providing them with the opportunity to engage in the entire procedure.
