Critical Mass: Printmaking Beyond the Edge

This book provides a broad and challenging source of information on the most exciting cutting-edge developments in international printmaking. It showcases the diverse work of fifty-two artists from twenty-eight countries, exploring the mediums used by these artists--from new variations on traditional intaglio and relief techniques to extreme forms of digital techniques, including time-based forms such as film and multimedia presentation. Printmaking continues to evolve, and artists develop traditional techniques while experimenting with new methods and materials. Critical Mass also explores how their craft is evolving the role and function of art in an increasingly technological global society as the boundaries between the distinct fields of the visual arts have become blurred, and growing numbers of artists now incorporate printmaking techniques within their practice.
