Slavonic Europe: A Political History of Poland and Russia from 1447-1796

From the author's preface: "This book is, I believe, the only existing compendium, in English, of the political history of Poland and Russia, from the middle of the fifteenth to the end of the eighteenth century, when the Polish Republic disappeared from the map of Europe and the Russian Empire took its place as the head and right arm of the Slavonic world." At the time of original publication in 1908, R. Nisbet Bain was Assistant Librarian of the British Museum. Bain was an outstanding pioneer among British scholars studying Eastern Europe at the turn of the Century.
