A Wanton Chastity

It's the final years of the long reign of Queen Elizabeth the First. And the outdoor playhouses, the Theatre and the Curtain and the Rose of the Swan, are as decrepit as the Queen herself. What's to be done? And there's a new celebrity of a playwright, one Master William Shakespeare, whose plays are so popular that his Company's old venues, the Theater and the Curtain, are no longer large enough. But the daring scheme, the demolition of the Theatre under the cover of a snowstorm of a night in late December, the transportation of it's valuable timbers across the river to the Banksides, the erection of a new and much grander playhouse in the vicinity of the Rose and the Bear Gorden, may be nothing more than folly! But both Shakespeare and the Chamberlain's Men are as ambitious as Macbeth, as aggressively naive as Othello, as deviously righteous as Hamlet! Why not tear down the Theatre and resurrect it, on the other side of the river, as the Globe!
