Description
This is a ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A751033. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The ballistic performance of model scale U-3/4%Ti long-rod penetrators with three different nose-shape designs (blunt nose, conical nose, and frustum cone) were evaluated. The target matrix included semi-infinite rolled homogeneous armor (RHA) and two finite RHA targets, one at normal incidence and one at high obliquity, but with the same line-of-sight thickness. The results reflected the same trends as observed for a previous tungsten alloy penetrator study, demonstrating that the nose-shape effects are independent of penetrator material.
