Ruth Stone, a feisty seventy-five-year-old, lives with her son Don and his wife Margie. She likes to drink beer and watch baseball games, but they have other ideas of how someone her age should act. Ruth goes to stay with Jo Panzini, her oldest friend. The old folks are soon joined by Ruth’s pregnant granddaughter Laurel, and Lily Johnson, who has lost her family. This ragtag group accomplishes a lot, despite the naggings of the middle generation. Ruth sees the opportunity for them all to join forces in a commune effort, and they purchase a ramshackle hotel despite all the obstacles.
