Description
Introduction from the Author
What are the components of a solid college education? I say there is more to it than what you find between the pages of the books assigned in a syllabus. It is a combination of knowledge learned from friends, professors, staff, books, and—finally—the self-searching done to evaluate all this information.
At first glance, Geneva College is made up of an inviting atmosphere with plenty of friendly people and jam-packed parking lots. And I can tell you that, after attending four years at this humble institution, there’s not much change. However, along the way, I have built invaluable relationships with a number of professors— three in particular. Professors at Geneva seek the best for the students and sacrifice enviable positions to be able to engage students in an atmosphere conducive for individual learning. Professors openly invite students to visit during office hours, and many (if not all) offer their personal contact information in case of a personal or academic emergency.
The students at Geneva, though some obnoxiously bound by dogmatism, are friendly and helpful. Although Geneva is a Christian school, there is a crowd for everyone, and I have never met a person who is isolated or without friends. My core group of friends has changed over the years, but it has offered support in the tough times and challenging experiences which have shaped who I am.
Finally, Geneva provided the resources I needed to achieve a liberal arts education and the experiences I needed to frame my worldview. With humanities and political science challenging the beliefs that I hold, the education I’ve received at Geneva has prepared me to succeed in life, while also giving me a love for a broad realm of knowledge.
Overall, my Geneva experience has been a positive one. I have learned that college is what you make of it. If you choose to see only the negative aspects of an institution (not only college), you will miss the positive aspects it has to offer. If you are seriously considering attending Geneva, this guidebook will give you plenty of positive and negative to reflect on.
Enjoy!
