Description
Introduction from the Author
Chances are that if you’ve picked up this book, you’ve already found the vital statistics about Gettysburg College from other sources—the school’s Web site, other college guides, and so on. If you haven’t, rest assured it’s all here. But the real treasure found in this guidebook is wholly separate from your general, run-of-the-mill facts and figures. The student opinions inside will paint a clearer picture and will, ultimately, help you decide whether or not this is the right university for you.
High school graduates are not one-dimensional people. Therefore, the college selection process should not be one-dimensional either. The beauty of the College Prowler series is that students are given the opportunity to gather information from students who have worried about and experienced actual 21st century college lifestyles. It’s true that you are going to a university to learn, but bear in mind that the majority of that learning will occur outside of the classroom. You will learn how to deal with bad roommates, deadlines, relationships, and a hundred other things that have little to do with academics. In other words, it is of utmost importance that students (and parents) realize that there are so many other factors involved in choosing a college. Imagine this book as your very own exclusive peek at how Gettysburg College really is beyond the statistics and beyond the company line.
Gettysburg College is a small, liberal arts college located in south-central Pennsylvania, approximately half an hour south of Harrisburg. Its student population is around 2,500, over 90 percent of who live on campus.
Not just any school brochure or pamphlet will inform prospective students that, on Tuesdays, GC students head over to the Pub for $2 pitchers to blow off steam. Also, the single-popped collar has been superseded by the double-popped collar, and for some daring souls, the triple! (We have the fraternities to thank for that one.) And it just wouldn’t be fair if incoming students were oblivious to Professor Jim Udden’s film studies courses (the much-coveted treasures of the GC course catalog).
These are just a few of the things that you’ll be glad to know before you make your college choice. Read onward for more!
