An accident of birth prevents Abel, first born son of King Solomon, from inheriting the Throne of David. Instead, he is apprenticed to a Bedouin spice merchant and trained to become a palace flunky. Abel must find a way to acquire his birthright without the physical overthrow of his father. But fate keeps popping in to take him further and further away from the City of David, including a distant land known only to Phoenician mariners.
