By the time Europeans arrived in Texas around AD 1500, groups of American Indians had been living in the region for thousands of years. Each group found different ways to live on the region they inhabited. They developed different cultures and traditions. They traded and fought with each other. And they struggled to survive European colonization and American expansion. Through it all, they worked to preserve their unique way of life.
