Description
The author of the following pages has more than one purpose in what he has written, and hopes to attract the attention of more than one class of readers. First of all, he wishes to give information to that very large hody of persons who may think of placing their sons in the University of Oxford, but who know nothing but what is very vague about the studies of the university and the expenses of residence in it; and still less about what are the material advantages procured by successful study, both during the time of an undergraduate, or students career, and after he has proceeded to his degree. The author has reason to believe that any real knowledge about what Oxford is, does, and may do, is exceedingly rare; and that, as with every other thing which may be in estimation, the tendency to unduly depreciate what we do not know anything about, is far more common than that to unduly exalt.
