A House Divided: Political Parties and Independence

The history of the two-party system of political corruption is traced from its beginning in the government of England during the reign of King Charles II up to the present day in America, with particular emphasis on the role played by the two-party system in America in starting the Civil War. With the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, independent voters were created, but only controlled the United States government a short time before a political party started by Thomas Jefferson took over the government in the election of 1800. Since that time, political parties have passed legislation at the state level to limit and exclude the participation of independent voters in the government of the United States. With the resurgence of independent voters in recent years and an abandonment of political party agendas by the people, it is time for Americans to start turning back the tide of party control.
