Big Tent Jubilee

Somewhere south of Lake Woebegone and Spoon River, in a place with more light than Yoknapatapha or Winesburg, you will find Big Tent, Oklahoma. All are welcome. The secrets of Big Tent lie lost in the decaying mind of Sky Woods. But those secrets come filtered through the telling of Juni Murphy, founding member of the Town Pump Curmudgeons. From the decades after WWI to the end of the century, Old Juni either lived, borrowed or outright invented the stories of a town full of idealists and iconoclasts. The lives of the Murphy, Flye, Purvis and Jenkins' families confront racism and violence mostly with humor and song. These lyrical narratives rise out of racial friction and musical creation, but the roots are in memory and jubilation.
