PREFACE In the preparation of this text we have become indebted to many individuals. We shall not attempt to name all of them here, hut we must mention some who have been especially helpful. Dr. Max L. Basemann has given advice on Portuguese pronunciation. Dr. Sidney E. Ekblaw has made useful suggestions on Latin American geography.
