Occupational Mobility Among Scheduled Castes

This book discusses the educational achievements and occupational mobility among the Scheduled Castes in India, the group that is a large section of Indian population (called as Untouchables), was deprived of their basic legitimate and human rights to live with dignity. They suffered from many inhuman atrocities and disabilities. The present book focuses on the transition of Scheduled Castes and social movement India. It focuses on trends of inter-generational occupational mobility of the Scheduled Castes among three generations. The book shows that, the second generation of Scheduled Castes is highly mobile as compared to their fathers' generation. It also attempts to measure the impact of Reservation Policy and job-opportunity provided by the Government of Maharashtra and Government of India. Besides it, the major factors responsible for bringing about occupational mobility among the Scheduled Castes, especially inter-generational and intra-generational Occupational Mobility. And which caste is leading so far as occupational mobility is concerned can also be understood. In this book, author found that, after the religious conversion under the leadership of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Mahars converted to Buddhism and threw of their traditional attitudes, beliefs and customs. Therefore, their life style has undergone a big change. The Buddhist community is more aware about the educational and occupational development and their rights as compared to other communities among the Scheduled Caste. Hence, the development of the Buddhists could be treated as an ideal model for all the Backward Classes in India. The movement led by Dr. Ambedkar, brought positive results among the Buddhists. The Buddhists are superior to other Scheduled Castes in terms of education, economical, social and cultural development and it is the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar and his movement. This book covers several aspects of occupational mobility among Scheduled castes in India. And hence the book will be useful to the teachers, students, planners and researcher and also to those who are interested in this field.
