A comprehensive history of the Parramatta Girls Industrial and Training School in Sydney Australia. Built in 1840 as an orphanage for Catholic children of convict parentage, it was proclaimed an industrial school in 1887 and was the longest operating institution of its kind in Australia. Located with the historic Parramatta Female Factory Precinct in Fleet Street Parramatta the site has been associated with the incarceration and confinement of women and children since 1821.
