My Endearing Love for a Beautiful Maiden

My Endearing Love for a Beautiful Maden started in high school at Sardis, Alabama, in the ninth grade in 1941. She was Frances Eldora Baker and my eye attached to her but I made no advances. The school term ended and I felt lonely just not seeing her. Summer passed and now we are in the tenth grade and seated across the aisle from each other. Our biology teacher Miss Ellers suggested the class put on a school play. All in the class were excited and Miss Ellers assigned parts of the play. We studied the parts and later began rehearsing for the play. One day backstage I tried to kiss Frances only to be slapped in the face. My face turned red and my ear rang like a bell. However, the next day Frances apparently relented because she wanted me to scrape polish off her fingernails. Ah! I got to hold her hand; as I mentioned above we were seated across the aisle from each other. That slap in the face I accepted as an expressipn of her endearing love for me and from that she finally agreed to be my wife for the rest of my life and then I got to kiss her for the first time.
