This book recounts from f a Congolese native perspective the 500-year history of the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1482 to present day. It examines the institutions, value and belief systems, customs and practices of the kingdom of the Congo, and establishes linkages between the cultural values, belief system and practices of modern day Congolese with those of their past. The book follows the journeys of the Congolese slaves to the Americas, documenting their early settlements in the New World. It highlights the struggle for power of the Congolese leaders and politicians since the ancient times, and discusses the poor record of economic management.
