If You Look for My Heart

If You Look for My Heart tells the story of three characters: Andrea, Thomas, and Evan. Andrea, a beautiful young psychologist, is starting to fall for Thomas when she finds out he is married. A neurologist at a university hospital, Thomas is reeling from the experience of moving his daughter into a group home, and the discord this causes with his wife. Meanwhile Thomas’s lab assistant Evan is falling in love, too, though the object of his affections barely seems to know he exists. Which is fine when he's perched in a tree outside her window, but unbearable when they work side by side at the lab. Like an Altman film, this fast-paced novel carries readers through a singular world, vividly entwining love, longing, and betrayal. The novel is interconnected with an album of the same name, whose songs are scattered throughout the narrative.
