John Valdez has been in prison for nineteen years for murder and armed robbery, crimes he didn't commit. He has recently discovered that there is a witness, a Catholic Sister, who can prove he did not murder and rob a wealthy Coral Gables woman in 1989. Valdez doesn't have the money to hire a private investigator to track down his witness, so he turns for help to Danny Murphy, a savvy convict jailhouse lawyer at Everglades State Prison. To find the witness, Murphy recruits his brother from the Miami State Attorney's office, and an ex-con in the Mafia who owes him a favor. The trail to the Catholic Sister becomes a whirlpool of intrigue, murder, kidnapping and religious conflict in the steamy streets of MIami and Key West.
