The 17 stories collected here represent mysteries of different types: police procedural, domestic malice, humorous, amateur sleuth, standard detection, courtroom confrontation, and dark desperation. "The Invisible Clue" reveals how a hole in a window pane points to the identity of a killer. Ken Ketchem, the world's oldest practicing private investigator, faces a blackmailer in "Option Six" and comes out of retirement to solve a political murder in "Lethal Lunch." A young would-be artist takes a unique approach to fame and fortune in "Farnsworth's Folly," while an ex-con tries to find a new niche in "Barn Door Syndrome." Some criminals are brought to justice, but now and then someone gets away with murder.
