Ciphers: Where Computers and Secrets Collide

This book was written to generate an interest in problem solving. Ciphers were chosen as a way to learn some programming, some history, and a touch of math. Various codes and ciphers that have been used throughout history will be explored. Possibly you have used one or more of them in grade school or as a scout. How to break ciphers will also be investigated. Using the computer to handle the various ciphers are developed using web pages. The programs in this book are written in HTML and JavaScript. These programming languages were chosen because they can be written using Microsoft Notepad, and will run in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). This means that no special programs will have to be purchased.
